this is absolutely brilliant, colette! the whole story is amazing, but i especially how you left the end so sad and yet open-ended that you can't help but hope. you write tragic so well, and i can just see jim cleaning that pitiful clay pot as though it were delicate and fragile and priceless.. just, wonderful!

Author's Response: Thanks so much StarShine - I guess at that point in S3, the situation just seemed sad, but open-ended. (Who knew it would take months more to evolve? Devolve?) And, yeah - aw Jim. So blinded by his own defenses/heartache back in those days. Thank god that's over. ;-)

I don't often read fanfic at work, and your story is why. I'm going to spend the second half of my shift in a daze, trying not to cry, not really paying attention to what I'm doing, and it's all your fault. That's how powerful this story is.

Beautifully written, amazing, powerful. You took my heart out, smashed it into a million pieces, then got out the glue and started to put it together, piece by piece.

btw, I never log in at work. I logged in specifically to write this review. now that's huge.

Author's Response: Oh dear. I hope your dazed state didn't affect anyone but yourself because if I interfered with your ability to do your job I'd feel really guilty. And is it wrong that I really like the visual of gluing your heart back together? For some reason I feel like I'm a little kid in kindergarten all over again. Finally, I know what it's like to never login at work/school and then have to for one certain story and I'm very flattered that it was mine. :)

Oh LoveFool! I'm so glad you wrote this! I mean, I aww-ed along with America when he showed her that house, but man, that place was a disaster! And I was just saying to my roommate that I'm not sure how I'd feel if someone bought me a house without consulting me. And then I read this. You won me over, again! Awesome job, LoveFool!

Author's Response: hahaha...I had the same conversation with a friend of mine when Jim first said he bought his parents house...but when I saw his face in this last episode -- silently pleading with her to love it, I realized that it was about so much more than the physical house.  It felt a bit like Casino Night all over again -- and this time Pam did not reject his gesture of love. :-) Thanks so much for reading and responding!

This was a tragically beautiful piece. Several years ago my best friend's mom lost a child, the only boy (they had wanted to be surprised too) in much the same way, on the night of the baby shower, of all times. And as I was reading this story, I couldn't help but remember the polaroid my friend showed me of her mom holding her stillborn brother. I could only imagine the anguish of having to deliver a baby knowing you'd hear no tiny cry at the end. So very well done, and even though I'm crying so hard my throat hurts, I have nothing but praise for this story.

Author's Response:

You know. That's the one thing I kept thinking about when my friend was in the hospital. I can't imagine the situation being horrendous enough but to know that after you push and push and go through the labor, that at the end.. it makes me tear up every time I think about it. I seriously cannot imagine a bigger pain for any one person to go through. It's so incredibly heartbreakingly sad.

My friend has lots of pictures of her little girl. I've looked at them a few times but I can't bring myself to again. It just makes me cry and maybe a little angry? I don't know.

Anyway, sorry for the rambling, heh. Thank you so very much for reading, StarShine. I keep saying it but the praise this story has gotten has really touched me and your very kind review and words made me choke up. So really and sincerely, thank you.

I'm gonna guess the revolving door bruise is the true story here. :) Personally, I tickled that your Pam has two of my quirks: the early alarm and the TV volume. Both of which annoy my roommates to no end.

I loved this cute, fluffy piece! But I think it's lonely as a one shot. Yep, definitely needs a companion chapter. It's only fair. :)

Author's Response: Nope. I just have an irrational hatred of revolving doors, so it seemed like a good potential mishap. :) Glad you liked it! I\'ll probably add to it when I get some time. Thanks for the review!

I love these little letters, and you've totally nailed Pam's voice. And Jim's oddities... :)

The whole P.S. on this one got me misty-eyed, no premature babies please! I just lost my patient for the first time, and it's totally shaken me up and made me really think about my line of work as a NICU nurse... I'd gladly go jobless if it meant no more babies coming out too early.

Author's Response: Aww StarShine. *hugs*  No worries here.  Just happy, healthy full term babies.  I promise.  So glad you're enjoying it.

You get me every. single. time. Flawless writing as usual, but wow. And now you got me all excited for next season. And now I REALLY want a fiance and to be pregnant so that he can think such awesome thoughts about me.

I really need to not review at 2AM.

But still, I love babyfic, and I love your writing, so of course, I'm now a puddle of mush. Thanks.

Author's Response: Thank you so much. I sort of like you reviewing at 2AM- I'm grinning like mad at your kind comments. Thank you for taking the time, even so late! I'm so glad you liked it!
