I'm switching to Yes on beta-reader, because I should have more time now that I've finished my own recent story and I'll probably take a break from writing. I don't know how many requests will come from that, so I reserve the right to change back to No if I get overwhelmed. :) But I am an unrepentant grammar Nazi, and have edited a LOT in the past, so I'm totally up for a little beta.
Over a year after Casino Night, Jim is really happy with Karen. But when Pam finally confesses her feelings to Jim, is it too late for them?
Oh, Jim. Just tell her the truth. Sure, Karen is NOT THE GIRL FOR YOU, but she deserves a clean break.

Okay, that was absolute sweetness. I love Karen in this. I have actually had a girlfriend try to get her boyfriend (my best friend) to go out with me because she thought we'd be better together than they would, so while some people might say it's unrealistic of Karen to do that, I really like that she did. And she's pretty perceptive, so I can see her making that connection. Great story. I love it.
Author's Response: Thank you! I think that Karen making the connection is a little fluffy, of course, but I wanted her to be able to leave not as a villian. I agree that she's very perceptive, and I like to think that if she were the one to break up with Jim she wouldn't want to hurt him if she could avoid it.
Oh God, Dwight. I love Dwight. This promises to be very entertaining.

Oh. I just...sigh. That was so perfect. Last line was wonderful. ALL of it was wonderful. I really liked these lines:
He was rewarded with the brightest smile he'd seen from her since Texas Hold 'em.
"This desk has a lot of history."
"I realized I wanted more than that."
So, so great. I just loved it.
I may have already commented on this, but I'm reading it again so I wanted to say (or re-say) "Wow." This exchange is great:
"Should I even ask where his motivation came from?"
"The French." She says simply.
"Ah," you reply, somehow knowing exactly what she means.
"Well, I guess..." You step away, pointing stupidly at your lunch bag, like it will finish the sentence for you.
And this is just...perfect:
"You don't get to punish me anymore." Her voice is steady, quiet. Strong. And you realize, if she wasn't ripping you inside out... again, you'd be proud of her. Just...perfect. I can't get it to un-italicize. I don't freakin' know why. Sorry.
Sigh. Perfect. I am in love with Jim and Pam in love with each other. And your writing is fantastic. It's descriptive and minimalist at the same time. Some favorite lines:
It hits you then, for as long as you've known her, you've seen Pam exactly three ways: in work clothes (everyday), in jeans (twice), and in a blue dress (once and always).
You know this is it, you're done. Forever.
"How old are you?" She kisses you then, but it's more like teasing, and she pulls away, grinning triumphantly. "Wow..." you have a little trouble breathing, "so... old enough." So fabulous. I just loved every moment of it.
Ha ha ha ha ha! Great epilogue. I loved this story. Thank you for writing it!

Something bad happens to Pam. Very Dark.
Thankfully, I don't have any experience with that type of violence, but I feel you wrote it very believably. I could definitely picture it, and all I was thinking is, "I hope Jim can be the friend she needs to bring her back from this." And I'm sure he'll be perfect. It's just tough imagining this happening to poor Pam. :(
Oh my. Poor Pam. And it looks like now Jim knows and that's got to be breaking his heart.

Mmm, very nice. I mean, bittersweet, but I can see the appeal--alongside the unease--of the solitary existence for Pam. Really enjoyed the story.

Karen, you dirty biznatch! Sigh. I like Karen for realsies, but she needs to seriously not pull crap like that. Grrrrrrr. But I know you'll turn it around somehow...not sure how, but I'll just have to have faith. :)
Hmmmm... I hope there's still hope for Jim. And I hope he's not just a complete bastage and dumps Karen even though she's pregnant with his baby. Because that would be very un-Jim of Jim. :(

This is wonderful. What perfect lines you've given Pam:
"If it's just safe, you'd be lucky to wake up and realize you've only wasted ten years of your life."
And also:
"If it doesn't make you shake, Jim... what's the point?"
And the ending line from Jim? Perfection. And, of course, there's THE KISS. Sigh!
BWAH HA HA HA HA HA HA! This is hilarious. Maximus! Ha! I think we just need to somehow tell Pam the penis's name, and she'll be all over it. ;)
