Bio:

Okay, first of all I'm a guy-are there any others writing here?  Yes, I am of course in love with Jenna Fischer and with the fictional character she has created.  And I would totally have a beer and watch some hoops with Jim Halpert.

I've never written romantic stuff in my life; this show just brings it out of me.  My stories here are sort of little daydreams that seem somehow therapeutic to me.  You can usually count on happy endings from my stuff; plenty of heartache on the actual show.

Other stuff:  37, divorced, two kids, I live in Northern Virginia

I'll add my voice ot the chorus of those who love this.  The breakup is beautifully done, and Pam absolutely would go to her mom's.  Also loved the closing conversation and Pam grinning a bit as she thinks of what is to come.

Really, really well done.  Beautifully paced and satisfying (TWSS, I Guess?)  It just unfolded very naturally, and I appreciate the lack of bells and whistles or shocking plot twists.  Great job.

Author's Response: Thanks brokenloon! That\'s kind of what I was going for -- short, sweet and to the point (TWSS???). Especially since it was my first one and I\'m just sort of playing around. Thanks for reading and commenting!

Aww, very nice.  This whole thing feels just like them, and I love Pam saying just the right thing.  Great stuff.

Author's Response:

One of the flaws I find in my own fic is my inerrant tendency to have Pam and/or Jim masterfully say exactly the right thing at exactly the right time, which real people seldom do. I am reassured by the fact that you think it is OK in this case! Thank you so much!

As usual I'm left grasping for words to describe the awesomeness of your words.  No one does grown up in character hot stuff like you.  And, I loved the tie part.  I can totally picture Pam doing that and Jim appreciating it.  Thanks for improving my afternoon with this gem.

Author's Response: Grown up, in character AND hot? Now I'm grasping for words to say how flattered I am! Glad you agree he'd appreciate the gesture - and I think she'd appreciate being appreciated, lol. It just felt to me like such an intimate thing for her to do - and I liked the idea of it bringing her back to a time when she was recognized (appreciated) by someone else who really loved her. Before this turns into another fic - thanks, brokenloon - I really APPRECIATE this review.

Oh, these two kids.  The past is gonna get them if they are not careful.

I'm really enjoying this story.  I love your characterization...one trait of Jim's that is shown on the show that lot of fic writers seem to ignore is that he is very non-confrontational.  With all he's been through, the closest we've ever seen to him raising his voice or obviously displaying anger is in "Girls and Boys."  Also, I agree that Pam's anger would have faded quickly, and I really liked your Dwight here...it's tough to have him believably ask Jim to lunch, but you managed.  Great work.

Author's Response: Brokenloon, I agree. Jim, for all he\'s been through, has never really had his say or dealt with his pain out loud. I\'m still not sure I\'ll have him hash it ALL out. But he needs to vent a little (even if it\'s venting with angry sex ;-) Thanks for your comments!

Summary: There were two alternate endings filmed for The Job, and I remember reading GD mentioning what the alternate ending was somewhere. So, this is my take on it. Also, it's sort of a look into what Pam was thinking throughout that day when she didn't think Jim was going to come back.

I just read this twice even though I've seen most of it before.  Sigh...there were so many realistic chances for them to get together in S3 and spare us all a lot of pain.  The one you depict here is wonderfully realistic and compelling, and best of all it is your writing, with its characteristic warmth and humor and perfect Jim and Pam voices.

Author's Response:

Ummm...you are obligated to read all of my stories 3 times minimum.  I thought I made that clear. :)

I'm so glad it came across as realistic.  That was what I was struggling to do.  Well - I was actually struggling to write it at all - but you've heard enough about that.

Thank you - for everything.

You go long enough between stories these days that in between them I forgot a little bit how great you're writing is, so each time I get to read something new there is a certain rediscovery.  I have loved this story from the time it was just an idea, and I continue to love it.  I agree with those who say bring on ch. 3.

Also, I'm pleased to see in the reviews that no one has spoken to defend that miserable song.

Author's Response:

That is incredibly sweet of you to say.  I'm glad you are still loving the story.  I'm quite fond of it myself.  Chapter 3 is coming together.

LOL!  I was just thinking Cosby/Crosby and how to get a reference to Karen in there somehow.  I did not know how horrific that song apparentlywas/is.

Thanks for the heads up. :)   LOL!

I love this fic soooo much.  The Jim and Pam are just right, both the serious stuff and the witty back and forth.  The comic relief of Dwight and Angela is inspired, and I really like the suggestive ending.  I'm so glad this story has bossed you around so well, and look forward to the epilogue.

Author's Response:

I'm happy to know you love it sooooooooo much.  Because you're going to have to read the next installment before I post and I wouldn't want you to have to read something you hate. :)

Seriously.  This review was a bright spot in my sucktacular day so thank you.

Well, I'd say you managed just fine without your betas.  Loved this.     Screw it.  Just say what you're thinking.  Yes indeed, Jim Halpert.  Congrats on adding another great work to your oeuvre, hard fought though it may have been.

Author's Response:

Look at you fancy pants.  Oeuvre.  What's with the French?  This from a man who man who refuses to spell hors d'oeuvres correctly???

Anyway - Thank you.   I probably should have waited.  I hate feeling like I might have rushed this - but if I hadn't it would never have finished - so....double jepoardy. :)

Hell yes, indeed.  Wonderful, wonderful.  Just a perfect mix of humor, hot stuff, and tender stuff.  I especially loved the ending; almost above all else thse two are partners in crime.  Glad that something good came out of ebing stuck in Orlando :)

Author's Response: This is about the only good thing.  :(  Thanks for reading and telling me what you thought.  I'm beginning to be afraid my efforts were futile - since this addition seems to have become the fainest of blips on the radar screen.  Oh well.  I'm glad you enjoyed it anyway.

A splendid piece of writing, and very easy to imagine something along these lines.  I'm gonna offer a bit of criticism though..I think it would have been more effective with a muddled, uncertain ending, which it seems to me how things would have gone...Jim continuing to pretend things were okay even though they weren't, or something like that.  You went for the full bore angst, in my opinion chosing maximum emotional impact over realism.  That said, this is a tremendous story, and I'm sure others might disagree with me on the ending.

Outstanding.  What a little nugget of gold this one is. You so often manage to go sort of one layer deeper in your characterization with bits like:

She thinks later she’ll be glad she hasn’t thought about yards and bedrooms because thinking about it alone seems unfair to him, and she knows he has plans that he doesn’t speak out loud.

Really well done.

Author's Response: Any day I get a brokenloon review is a good day!  Your mini-rants on the boards have been so inspired and so dead-on - I'm so pleased you enjoyed this.  I don't know if I hold out much hope that I actually wrote some sense into anyone, but it felt very satsying to say "I'm going to punch you in the tooth" to all the doubters, and I mean that in the nicest possible way. :-)  I have no doubt in my mind that Greg and the writers will reward the faithful.  Thank you so much!

Well, this was certainly a nice thing to find after a miserable morning.  Vintage uncgirl stuff.  The dialogue is great and the emotions pitch perfect.  This was my favorite:

She moved her body flat against his side and looked up at him, “I know.”  She desperately wanted to look away, the moment weighing heavy again, but she focused on him trying to reassure him.  That's just so perfect, her fighting her insinct to avoid the heaviness and realizing he might need reassurance.

Awesome job.
