Bio:

Okay, first of all I'm a guy-are there any others writing here?  Yes, I am of course in love with Jenna Fischer and with the fictional character she has created.  And I would totally have a beer and watch some hoops with Jim Halpert.

I've never written romantic stuff in my life; this show just brings it out of me.  My stories here are sort of little daydreams that seem somehow therapeutic to me.  You can usually count on happy endings from my stuff; plenty of heartache on the actual show.

Other stuff:  37, divorced, two kids, I live in Northern Virginia

As a huge baseball fan I'm absolutely loving this...you've struck a nice tone with this whole thing so far, it's really a fun read.  Can't wait for the game.  But I'm rooting for the Braves.

Author's Response: Oh, thank you! Unfortunately, I'm moving away from sports in the following chapters into other "new" types of clothes for FNB to try on. I hope you like them anyway!

“I need someplace to stay.” She said this so softly he had to strain to hear her in the stillness of the evening, leaning toward her slightly.  Something inside of him suddenly wanted to protect her.

Wow, this was even better the second time around.  I've always felt that there was such potential for movement after Boys and Girls, when it was laid bare to Pam who supported her dreams and who didn't.  I think the way you depict Pam abruptly leaving is very believable, and the image of Jim picking up his keys and seeing Pam on his doorstep is so powerful.  And the phrasing..."his mind was heavy with reliving the day," for one, and many others.  Cannot wait for more.

I love this of course...the whole situation you have Jim in is just amazing to think about.  I love how he lets her cook for them-many authors would have Jim immediately whipping up a gourmet meal, but this rings truer and serves Pam better.  And I love how he puts her first, suppressing what must be an overwhelming desire to know the details.  Cannot wait for more.

Love this so much...I think Jim's heart would be about to burst, the woman he loves finally shaking off they guy that's been holding her down, starting to believe in herself, and turning to him.  It would be like the answer to his prayers.  And on top of that situation you give us the poetry and the evocative image of a walk in the snow.   Hope the muse has some hop in her step.

When it's all said and done this is one of my favorite chapters...great takes on both inner Jim and inner Pam, the Mark-Jim banter, and just the whole situation you've so believably put them in...just awesome.

Author's Response: thank you!!! you rock, seriously.  Thanks a mil for the help.

What a lucky bastard I have felt like getting to read these recent chapters before anyone else.  You're just in the zone right now it seems.  You're weaving the epic drama of them coming together perfectly with the finely observed ordinary details of their lives, all the while sprinkling in humor and some new characters of your own.  It's just so damn good.

Author's Response: I LOVE getting stuff back from you with two thumbs up!!!  It's just magical and cannot be described.  Thanks for keeping it real ;-)

Outstanding!  This version is the best yet.  Laugh out loud funny, but still insightful into their relationship, and even touching.  I especially lke the way Jim is portrayed here, wanting to take care of her even as he is in agony.  Great job.

Author's Response:

Well I finally get to return an old favor...if not for you and xoxoxo, I would likely have just circulated this around to a few people I know (hee hee) as a joke and not put the time into it to make it a quality piece.  And I think that your comments helped me get Pam right here, so I appreciate all your insights.

Very well done...when I think about these two I wonder which would be worse, Jim's pain as he drove to Stamford or Pam's hollow emptiness when she realized he was gone.  I think your take on how the day would have gone for Pam is spot on, though I'm not sure how the last thought that you show her having here fits with her not calling the wedding off until three days before it was scheduled.

Author's Response: Thanks! I know exactly what you mean, I think it's impossible to tell who was in more pain after that night. And for the last thought, I always imagined her knowing immediately that she loved Jim too much and couldn't marry Roy, and her struggle in the weeks afterwards was how she would end the relationship she's been in half her life. I guess I could have explained that more. Thanks for the review!

Wow, this was unbelievably good...even if we didn't know who Andy turned into this could stand on its own as a great little short story.  Very funny, but touching and even a little sad in its way.  Ian Leuschner was the kid in my elementary school.  Not a well adjusted fellow at all.   Great, great job with this.

Author's Response:

Thanks so much, brokenloon!  It was a fun little story to write.  I think we can all identify a little bit with The Kid or his parents, or at least look back on our own Kid and have a little more sympathy.

My sister had some little tic-y activities she used to do.  She actually told me a few years back (when one of my kids was being tic-y) that she'd pray to God every night when she was a kid that she'd wake up "normal"...I had no idea!  Maybe she should've had a list, but we know how well that worked out for Andy!

I'm sending good thoughts out to the Ian Leuschners and Joey Shawns of the world...

Thanks so much for reviewing!

This was truly one of the more brilliant things I've ever read...really amazing.  Favorite parts:  the secretary sabotaging him, "that works like two-fifths of the time," "it was sort of court ordered"...I could go on.  Even someone who has never seen the show could appreciate his as a great piece of humor writing.

Kudos, kudos, kudos.

Author's Response:

Thanks, brokenloon!  This was one of those where I pretty much sat down and started typing.  Don't you love those?  And of course it needed a bit of tweaking and such, but it mostly just brought itself into being.

I see the secretary as a really good and tireless secretary who probably thinks highly of Mr. Bernard, but not so highly of his son who takes advantage of Mr. Bernard and who's "always up in [her] bidness" and giving her nicknames.  So when she has a chance to give good advice or poor advice... the devil on her shoulder wins over the angel on her other shoulder. ;)

Of course, she's only hurting Mr. Bernard in the end, as he just has to "help" aimless Andy in his quest for a job.

The "two-fifths of the time" thing is a riff on "Gets a laugh like a quarter of the time" from Product Recall.  In real life, we all use the same phrases or phrasing all the time, so I try to take some of the phrasing on the show and twist them a bit for dialog in fanfic.  (That's the only way I was able to write 3 stories that featured Stanley.)  Of course, "two-fifths" is just inherently funny to me.  What a goofy fraction to come up with. ;)  I love Andy.

Thanks so much for reading and reviewing, brokenloon.  I don't think I could ask for a better review ever.  When I'm having a down day, I might have to come look at this review. :)

Certain in this world are death, taxes, and your stories being great.  Perfectly in character, so easy to imagine them exactly as you write them.  Your Jim is especially great here, devoted and in love but still a real guy rather than some ideal.   If you wanted to crank out about 20 chapters of this it would be just fine.

Author's Response: Wow, what a nice thing to say. Glad you thought Jim felt real here - honestly, I find him much more appealing with flaws and quirks and all that good stuff. Nothing more boring than perfection. Can't promise 20 more chapters, but there will be at least a couple. Thanks, brokenloon!

The first person format is fun to read when it's done well and you're doing a great job with it.   Your take on Pam and her thoughts is very believable.  My favorite line:  That’s a stupid thought. Jim’s never at a loss for words; he just doesn’t know what to say sometimes

Summary: This is a story written in response to the hiatusathon challenge. My challenge was: "Ryan and Todd Packer - set Sexual Harassment. Where did they go? Points for non-obvious locations like strip clubs." For those who don't remember the episode, salesman Todd Packer asks Michael to delegate someone to drive him around town, since Packer's license has been yanked for DUI. Michael chooses the extremely reluctant temp, Ryan, to be Packer's chauffer. Packer being who he is, boozing, belching, and bad behavior follow.

Who has two thumbs and got a laugh out of this story?  This guy.  Great characterization here, though I sort of hope Packer's world isn't quite as bleak as you paint it....I mean wow.  Ryan was spot on too.

Author's Response: Thanks, brokenloon. Interesting that you find Packer's world bleak. I was mainly exploring the question of why Packer is such a dickwad, and jealousy seemed to be a good answer. Things just seemed to spiral downward from there. Almost makes me feel sorry for the guy. But, you know, not.
