This is essentially my take on the "unseen" challenge. I've written a couple of these, and I originally thought I'd do one for every episode, but I'm thinking that's too ambitious for me -- especially when someone else has already done it so perfectly. But for what it's worth....

This is just my answer to Thursday night's angst - my attempt at an explanation of what the hell they were thinking, as well as my offering of a happy ending (TWSS!).

A few things: First, I'm working on the assumption that a lot of what I wrote in the AFtC for season II stands (though I likely won't reference any of it here), up until Casino Night. (Clearly I was quite off about what happened after the kiss...heh.)
Second, there will be flashbacks filling in the blanks of what happened immediately after CN (how long did Jim work? how did he and Pam ultimately leave things? how did she end things with Roy? how did Jim find out about her cancelling the wedding?); the flashbacks will happen largely in the chapters pre-merger (to keep things interesting for Jim/Pam fans during their physical separation).
But he's Jim. And he looks at her and she feels that way she can never quite define. Post The Job.

Yup, it’s a post-Cocktails fic! With a bit of a twist. Karen does a bad thing, and Jim is about to suffer the consequences…“Pam? Well, we are more like acquaintances now. She does her own thing and I do mine. It’s best this way if you think about it,” Jim said into the camera.
Pam is leaving Dunder Mifflin. Where do Jim and Pam stand before her departure?
Member's Choice - “My father died, so I’ll need a few days.” She explained in an unaffected sounding voice that surprised even herself. The three other parties in the room were stunned into silence. Jim spoke first. “Jesus, Pam…” She stood with her back to him and addressed Michael as if Jim had not made a sound…as if Jim did not exist. It was the only way.
“Ladies and Gentlemen! Blacks and Whites! Straights and Homosexuals!” Michael makes sure to make eye contact with Stanley and Oscar during his last two exclamations. “It gives me great pleasure to announce that this Friday will be our second annual Dunder Mifflin….Casino Night!”
It’s simply instinctive; at the two words, Jim’s eyes slide automatically toward Pam, only to find hers had done the same, and as a result they’re staring at each other for the briefest of moments.
Alternate season three finale
Not a literal translation, despite what the title suggests.
The revival of Movie Monday can only lead to misery—or at least, that’s what Pam believes—especially when Entourage is replaced with something a little more personal.
After a fire destroys her apartment, Pam moves in with Jim and Karen. Everyone has to find out how they define "friendship". Not for those who prefer their Jim to be wholesome.
. . . comes from some other beginning's end. Post-Beach Games. Based around the finale (but no spoilers).

Jim asks Pam out after his return from NYC. Will it be the perfect first date or will their nerves get the best of them?
Ok, all us Jammers are happy about "The Job", and we know that in truth, it was good for Pam to "Grow a pair" (in Michael's terms) and have some time to figure stuff out on her own. But what if we just sped things up a bit? What if she gained that boldness sonner rather than later?
Spoilers through Casino Night, and (soon... when I finish...) through all of Season 3, including The Job!!! intrigued? Good. Come back soon to see the completion...
