Bio:
After being raised by feral dogs deep in the heart of Appalachia for my first 17 years, I rescued a group of imperiled socioanthopologists from certain doom at the hands of some moonshiners in an undisclosed mossy holler of my homeland. Silly with gratitude, they taught me to read and eventually, to make letters with a pencil. I'm continuing that learning process by writing fan fiction here.
As you can see, I'm still having trouble with run-on sentences and cliches. Yet I've come so far.

Oh, and I love music - especially jazz.

OMG, this was wonderful. Perfect. The interchanges are so well written. The Lent analogy, the Titanic teasing...
I especially loved this part:
“You’re too important to me,” Pam said bluntly, unwilling to be distracted by his soft chuckles and the husky timbre of his voice. “You are so important.”

Jim blinked up at his ceiling, wondering if his breastbone could withstand the beating his hammering heart was inflicting. “You’re, uh, everything,” he managed to croak. “I meant what I said, Pam, I’d save you first.”

“It‘s not up to you to save me,” she said, her voice softly vehement.

Thanks, jazzfan.  Nice that you have a Seth!  And, I'm glad to hear the characterization is working.

Oh, I love backstories, and this is a really good one. So much has changed with them, and yet, so much hasn't really changed. I like how 2006 Pam realizes what she is feeling on one level but refuses to acknowledge it on another. And how Jim's still having her on about the explanation three years later. A word to the wise for our sweet couple though - not on the hammock. And that's all I'll say about that. Very sweet story.

Author's Response: I love backstories too. It\'s one of my favorite aspects of speculation about these characters. Glad you enjoyed it, and sorry for the horribly late response! Thanks for reviewing. :)

Okay, I admit, you had me at the title. *grin*
But goodness, you've so wonderfully captured that feeling that you get when something magical and profound and life changing is happening to you and you're lucky enough to realize it in the moment itself. Rare and wonderful, and sort of hyperaware.
This is so perfect I don't know where to start, but if I have to pick out parts to mention, I'm going to choose these. In these few sentences you give such perspective in Jim's life and how new and wonderful this moment is.
We'd recently replaced the old creaking front door with a new one and the fresh, crisp separation from the jam prepared my ears for the following cocoon of silence. Nothing but us, a baby, and a bit of that rarified air that Frank sang about.

We stood together in those two feet of entry way not saying a word. Completely still on the floor I'd tread on through all types of weather. The dirty old linoleum had held me up in crusted sneakers, too tight dress shoes for the winter formal, and cleats that had gotten me into heaps of trouble. But never once had I stepped through this door wearing these particular shoes.

(Plus, I dearly love the thought of Jim Halpert doing this):
I didn't own any Sinatra, but I figured tomorrow I'd go out and get some. It felt like the right time for a little Sinatra.
I also thank you for this:
Clearly all my thoughts just felt...new...today. Like today's the day I'd write a song if I knew how.

Sorry about the gushing, but I truly love this piece. You've outdone yourself.

Author's Response: First off, don't EVER apologize for gushing. lol. Or for picking out PARTS to talk about. What writer doesn't LOVE THAT? I really like this, Emily's List. I never hated Roy - he's kind of an average guy. He's just not right for Pam and he took everything for granted. I thought this sentence really expressed that well:

Really, he’d never felt this much at once before.

Author's Response: thank you for the feedback! yeah - i think roy is an okay guy. perhaps not as cute, smart, or funny as one jim halpert, or more fitting for pam, but he had his heart broken. i love that line from \"phyllis\' wedding\" when he says to pam: how do you think i feel? i\'m the one who wanted to get married.

Author's Response: I\'m actually with you, jazzfan. I\'ve never dug AU, but this just felt...right, and I\'m working like hell to make sure that while we may be in a new place, the people are all the same. I\'m really touched that you\'re taking a chance and hope you stick with it - and by all means, keep me honest and let me know if I veer off track, okay? Thanks again!

I loved this! I'm in the camp that would love to see Jim lose it once, but I agree it will never happen on the show, so thanks for writing this. And what a catalyst in Jim's douchy brother. I think the reveal of how Jim handled Casino Night would the kind of thing that would finally get to Jim, because he seems to want to keep private things private. (I also think him drinking a bottle of vodka that night is not too farfetched either - there is a true paucity of fanfic about Jim spending that night alone) I love how Michael had one of his moments of clarity and saved the day - nice turn around from Phyllis' wedding.
The talking heads were perfect. I love everything this story chooses to be.
