Wow, this little story of yours has taken on a life of it's own, yes? And I think it's great! I love the different take on the characters outside of the Dunder-Mifflin setting we all are used to seeing them in. And I think my favorite line of the whole story was the one about rescuing ladies in Perpetual Help. Very funny, in a dorky Jim kinda way.

Nice work!

Author's Response: Thanks so much for the challenge that started it all!! LOL  Who would have thought a little HD jolt of energy could spurn THIS? ;-)  I loved that there was an actual residence called Perpetual Help... it just seemed so perfect in so many ways! Thanks for reading and for the feedback!

Summary: With every break-up comes the awkward ritual of returning of each other's things. Here's a glimpse into those awkward moments.

Wow...I don't know if there's been a final chapter of a story that I've been more anxiously anticipating than this one. I know the struggle you went through writing this, and I know about the re-toolings, the re-hashings, and the re-writes, and I have been wondering which direction you'd end up going in. And after reading this brilliant chapter, I have to say--wholeheartedly--"Mission Accomplished!"

There are so many things I love about this particular chapter that it's difficult to know where to begin. First of all, however, WOOT! for Post-it notes and shout outs! (How sad is it that when I read about the notes being in the box that I didn't even think of my 55 word fic? heh.)

I also love the play on words with the "return the favor" thing and the party horns/moving. It reminds me so much of "Cliche," and almost makes this whole story a sub-plot of that one. Brilliant stuff.

Oh, and this line: "She mistakes her embarrassment for bravery" absolutely owns me, as you said once. :)

Just a fabulous job all the way around, m'dear! Viva la Swifferina!

No, I would never throw garbage at you, my dear Swiffer! (Well, maybe if this chapter sucked...) Heh... But this chapter most definitely does NOT suck. I'm loving this bold adventure of exploring the dark side of JAM that you're on, and I think you should be proud of this little experiment here.

As we've talked about before, it's okay to not have things be perfect between these two. You've proven that a well-crafted story trumps angsty subject matter. :)

Looking forward to the last chapter!

Awww.... poor Jim! Yes, strong men do indeed cry, but they're more likely to blame it on allergies. Brilliant observation, that.

As sad as this is...do I detect a hint that there may be something still between them??? (please?)

Excellent work, as usual!

Author's Response:

Of course some dust flew into his eye.  Damn dusty office.

and there might be something there...there might not.  Oh the mystery and intrigue!

Many thanks as always Mose :)

SWIFFER! What are you doing, making my heart hurt like this??!?! Not cool. :P

I'm kidding. Sort of. I agree with those who say that this is a really gutsy move to take, and a bold theme to explore. Especially when read in tandem with "Cliche." They make a very interesting counterpoint to each other.

Beyond the obvious discomfort of the story, I loved the "little" things about this chapter that rang so true: the fact that summertime is a bad time to break up; the thought of juice making her want to cry; the fact that she doesn't even hear her whole name before she shuts the door behind her.

Anyway, I know you'll do great things with this fic, as usual. 'Cause, y'know...you're just that way. :)

So the first word that springs to mind while reading this chapter is "bittersweet." And I mean that in the best and truest sense of the word. You have so much going on here in such a short amount of space: the happy memories of the boxers (really, how much do I love "no ifs and or beets?") combined with the sadness of realizing that she just can't keep them; the dorkiness of Jim's awkwardness and the glory of Pam's embarrassment... it's just a lovely chapter.

And I'm sensing that things are getting better between them, so WOOT!

Author's Response: Thanks Mr. Mose!  Feel free to use "no ifs ands or beets", only will cost you a nickel every time you do :)  Thanks for everything!

So did they watch the Bourne movies or not? You can't leave me hanging like this!!

I'm kidding. This was a delightful little glimpse into the world of future JAM and you wrote it just beautifully. Of course, I'm a sucker for lots and lots of Jim and Pam banter, so this was pretty much win-win-win! :)

Summary:

Way back in April, I wrote this for fun. It's about my favorite reviewers from Girly-Girl. Everything everyone says is taken literally from their own reviews* (albeit taken completely out of context).  Oddly enough, Jim remains dressed throughout the story.

*Except poor LisaHoo... I just kept adding stuff to her comments because, well, she rocks!

Y'know, the thing I love about this story (and indeed, about the show in general) is how utterly ordinary the characters are. They're just like regular people doing regular things, and yet somehow, it's fascinating. And that's sorta how I felt about this little story of yours. It was a nice little glimpse into the calm before the storm, if you will.

I liked the back story of how Pam ended up at DM; how it was Roy who convinced her to get the job, and how a series of events just kept her there.

Nicely done!

Author's Response: I had fun writing this because of exactly what you said. I sort of just imagined that I was Pam and trying to figure out how to go from a normal job to being on TV. Plus, I had lots of questions about how Pam ended up as the receptionist and this was my way of answering them. Thanks for the review, Mose! You rock!

This line right here: "Like she knows she’s special and she’s dying to prove it because she’s terrified you’ll think she’s not." Is amazing. If I weren't married already, I'd marry that line. :)

Love the nod to "40 year old Virgin," and the way that Grace compares everything to the theater. What a great idea for a story! I'll be following this one. Excellent!

Author's Response:

I don't think you can cheat on your wife with a line of fic, so you're in the clear! Thank you so much- I was happy with that one, myself, because it finally clicked for me what it was about Karen that bugged me.

I have a couple more paragraphs already written, so you should get the ending fairly soon. Thanks again!

"It was like she wanted a grand exit, but everything just got small on her. Heh, except for the boobs."

You certainly have a knack for boiling a character down to their essence, you know that? :) I'm loving this look at the finale from Grace's POV, and I think you're doing a marvelous job with it!

Author's Response: What a lovely comment. I love trying to see what makes these characters tick. I'm so glad you're enjoying it! Thank you, again and again!

Reviewer: Cousin Mose Signed 9
Date: August 02, 2007 Title: Chapter 3: Was blind, but now I see

Okay, this chapter contains two of my new favorite metaphors/descriptions: Jim leaning over Grace's desk "like there was nothing more important in the world than our conversation"; and Jim leaving the NY office "looking like you imagine the Christians going into the gladiator arenas: terrified, but confident of their reward."

Wow...just...wow! :)

Author's Response:

"Wow" yourself! That's so nice to say about my turns of phrase; I appreciate the specific compliments. Glad you've enjoyed this story! Thank you!

Summary: The cast gets their epilogues in this piece that further proves that I have lost my mind.  Also, I am aware of the grammatical error in my title, however that was apparently the way that I wrote the name when I saved the file on Friday.  So I thought I'd leave it as is just to show that my brain has broken.

Uh.... yeah.

I might suggest either upping the voltage, reducing the meds, or some comfortable combination of the two.

And yet, like some glorious train wreck, I cannot look away from this. Besides, it makes my heart happy in ways I don't talk about at cocktail parties to know that John Mellencamp FINALLY won an Oscar.

Author's Response:

Reducing the meds?  I think the world would be better off if I upped the meds.

I really, really, really want John Mellencamp to win an Oscar soon, just so the show would have to address this event.  A whole new 'Kevin is rich' plotline could be hilarious.

Such a unique idea to explore, and you're doing a great job with it. All of Jim's reasons for not "going all the way" with his previous girlfriends are totally plausible. I especially liked the way you wrote this chapter. I'm not sure if I can explain why...it just felt very real to me. Excellent work! Keep it going!

Excellent work here, puff! I think you're accomplishing your stated goals quite nicely--staying true to Jim's character while simultaneously crafting this interesting and totally plausible back story for him.

I think the changes you made (minor, though they were), really helped tighten the story up and make it just that much stronger.

I'm fascinated to see what you do when you get to Karen. (My guess is that she was just too scary for Jim. :P)

Author's Response: Thank you so much for the long review and again for your help with this chapter! :oD

That line just killed me! So funny! Jim's irrational fear of Pam's socks--though they are a little odd, I'll admit--might be the funniest thing I've read in a while. And Pam's solution to the problem? Well, that's just the extra icing on the cake! :)
