This is take-your-breath-away perfect. My goodness. Your use of specific details is just so precise. You capture Pam's sadness without being maudlin, you capture her longing without being melodramatic.

Jim is home, and she knows she loves him now, loves him in a spontaneous parking lot confession kind of way, if she was ever brave enough for that.

That? That is a damn fine line of prose. I'm really smitten with this story and I'm so happy you came back to write it.

Author's Response: Wow, thanks so much nqllisi. Seriously, this is possibly the nicest review I\'ve ever received, and very much appreciated :)

They just needed...something, right? One or the other of them just needed to say something! Aw, S2, back when things hurt so much but so sweetly. Drunk Jim, confused Pam, Roy being his usual insensitive self (not evil, just not particularly attentive)...you capture that angst so perfectly, and resolve in a way that could have happened. Brava!

Author's Response: Yeah, exactly; I have half a dozen other bits started with just that premise--somebody say something! If only...but I\'m glad you liked it. Thanks for the review, lis, it\'s always good to hear from you. :)

How on earth did I miss this? So sweet, so sad. Seriously, is there a petition to Bring Back Holly? I'd sign, and I'd attach this story as a reason why- because this relationship was fun, and funny, and humanized Michael in a way that was healthy and joyful. You capture something lovely, here.

Author's Response:

Aww, thanks so much! Yes, Holly was "the best thing to happen to this office since World War II". LOL. No, seriously, Holly and the Holly/Michael relationship was my favorite thing about this show for the past 3 seasons. Holly really needs to come back.

This is simply breath-taking. The parallels with the (wonderful, wonderful) movie are subtly drawn out and deftly managed, and all of the details feel absolutely true to life. He tried to love her enough to let her go, as we now know, but Roy was no Victor Lazlo and jet skis aren't the Resistance, and this time we'll get our happy ending. Thank you for letting me "get caught up in someone else's story". It was a delight.

Author's Response: Thank you so much. You got exactly what I was going for, although the first draft was more obvious about stating the parallels, so I have to credit Talkative with that one. To quote a line from one of her stories, \"I suck at subtle.\" But I am glad that you enjoyed this, and I really appreciate the comment.

This? Is emotionally magnificient. So vivid and sad. My mother went through something like this, miscarrying after not being initially thrilled about the pregnancy, and from what she has said I think you capture that guilt and sorrow perfectly. I am warning a few pregnant fic-readers away from this story, which I hope you take as the compliment that it is meant to be- this is too real, too true.

Author's Response: Oh. Thank you so much, ngllisi, really. I am such a fan of your work so to read this before going off to work last night really put me in the best mood.. strangely enough. I'm so glad that you felt this to be real and vivid and that's truly the best compliment so thank you again.

I love your use of the bed as a metaphor for Pam's status. Sleeping beside (or without) someone is a profound part of a relationship- the "marriage bed" is a symbol that goes far beyond sex. This also reminds me of one of my very first fics, called "Held," so that's fun, too. Anyway, this was beautifully, skillfully done.

Author's Response: Thank you so much, ngllisi. I totally agree that sleeping with someone (just sleeping, no sex) is very intimate, in ways even more intimate than sex. I think it has something to do with vulnerability, and trusting someone enough to be able to be comfortable enough to fall asleep.\r\n\r\nThanks for the review!
