Okay, first of all I'm a guy-are there any others writing here? Yes, I am of course in love with Jenna Fischer and with the fictional character she has created. And I would totally have a beer and watch some hoops with Jim Halpert.
I've never written romantic stuff in my life; this show just brings it out of me. My stories here are sort of little daydreams that seem somehow therapeutic to me. You can usually count on happy endings from my stuff; plenty of heartache on the actual show.

Aww. That was simply adorable, and chock full of xoxoxo goodness, the warmth and humor that spills out of every sentence you write aboout these two. Especially loved Jim's gag...Kelly and her toilet paper wedding dress. And something struck me about Pam whispering "It'll be easier now--don't you think?" Something so sweet and vulnerable about it. Well done.

Okay, I'm reviewing twice to save you from the horror of13 reviews. I will just add that I like the depiction of protective Jim here...I think you got him exactly right. You're very kind to me. What an amazingly ambitious story this is, and what a clever idea. This really is a major work--one of those stories where we're essentially getting to read a good novel for free. You've clearly put a lot into this, and I find this a very believable alternate universe and your compression of everything into one week surprisingly effective so far. In terms of constructive criticism, I'll say the same thing that I've said many times as a beta, that at times you tell us what a character is thinking when it might be more effective to allow us to imagine for ourselves based on their words and actions.
That said, this is truly one of the more amazing stories I've seen on here in a while. Thank you for it.

I love everything about this fic. I love the way you capture Pam's longing and at the same time her resolute hope and perserverance. I love the image of them both waiting in the parking lot. Thanks! I don't know. I can see it either way. I vacillate between him thinking he'll just humor her for a bit because he knows how it'll fail to being pissed off she did something so clearly stupid. Something in me thinks the being pissed off would come later - like when the next mortgage payment was due - but who knows??

I have my own ideas of what the wedding will/could be but I'm not in the mood to be wrong about it when it finally happens. So I took a different direction - one that focused more on the meaning behind their wedding than the event itself.

As one fo the few dads lurking around these parts, I'm breaking a long review hiatus to say what a fine, fine job you've done with this series. Your Jim and your Cece both seem very real, and while there is a lot of love here, it's not syrupy or idealized. Perhaps you'll be kind enough to go at least through the college years?
Author's Response: It's great to hear from a dad on this story. I'm basing a lot of it on my own father. My dad and I have what seems like a rare father-daughter relationship in that I am not in the least bit a "daddy's girl," nor do I resent him. We disagree, we both have tempers, he can be a condescending ass, I'm sometimes loathe to admit he's right, but he'd do anything to protect me (and tries, despite my being a self-sufficient grown woman), and I have immense respect for him. Neither of us have any tolerance for bullshit. Cece is more of a daddy's girl and Jim is more of a sentimentalist, but I think they've got a similar honesty between them. And I imagine her relationship with Pam is similar, probably with some of the added intimacies and challenges of the mother-daughter relationship. But I really wanted to focus on Jim as a parent.
I'm so glad you'd want to see it go on longer, but I think the story, or perhaps my energy for it, is coming to a natural end point. But thank you for taking the time to review, and I'd love to hear your thoughts on any of the specific incidences throughout.

Wow, loved this...reminds me of a bunch of classic 2007 era fics, with these two teetering on the edge of finding happiness in each other vs. protecting their own pride. I thought the conversation and the tension and emotions that came with it were exceptionally well done.

Author's Response: Hey, brokenloon! I don't think you're a jerk, well, maybe for not reviewing earlier but definitely not for the complaint. ;) I always welcome any sort of criticism or critique. To be honest, I'm surprised I made it to chapter 18 without someone yelling foul. Yes, I do think the Jim we all know and love would be the first in line to know exactly what is going on with his child. So, in that sense, in relation to canon, I can understand your concern for OOC-ness. Since this is AU, I've decided to take a little liberty with his character. My interpretation is that this Jim has become so inward after everything that has happened to him, that his own selfishness has prevented him from seeing the big picture. That he has been so focused on himself that talking to his sister in law kinda wakes him up from that selfishness so he can concentrate on what really matters. To me, and my idea when writing it, is that it's a reflection of the selfishness I saw in season three Jim--where I do think he was so focused on himself, he missed the times that Pam reached out to him. Anyway, the scene you quote above, and I'm sure I probably could have written it a lot better, was not so much to show how little Jim knew but more so Jim's waking up that he's been so focused on himself, he's starting to realize that he doesn't know anything and probably should get to knowing that. On top of that, I wanted to explore Jim not being such a confident dad at first--on the show, by the time Pam gets pregnant, Pam is his anchor, he's got more direction in life, he's a bit more stable. The Jim in my story is lost, especially around the time he finds he's going to be a father and that his personal issues make the situation overwhelming--overshadowing his basic need to care for his child. The purpose of the scene with Marcie was to show Jim getting back on the right track again, back to who he really is (and possibly to the Jim we all know.) And, as early as the next chapter, you'll see Jim becoming the caring person you see on the show. ;) Anyway, that was all going through my head when I wrote it. I hope my rambling makes some sense. Could I have written all of that better? Sure, this is just a hobby project, which is unbeta'ed. If nothing else, I hope this helps clarify why I wrote it the way I did even if you disagree still on characterization. Please feel free to always drop a line, I appreciate feedback in all forms. :)

Like so many, I have been enjoying this story and eagerly awaiting updates, and hats off to you for it. And yet, I guess I am finally only submitting a review to complain. (What a jerk!) While I don't object to the slow movement in terms of bringing Jim and Pam together, I have to admit I find Jim's passivity regarding his child to be OOC: This:
“Do you know her due date?”
“No.”
“How’s the baby’s health?”
“I don’t know.”
“Is she going to let you have joint custody?”
“I don’t know,”
There are plenty of men out there who could know they were having a child and not be bothered to find out the due date or check up that everything was okay, but I don't see Jim Halpert as one of them. Uncertainty about wanting a life with Pam is one thing, but I do think he would be more actively interested in his offspring even if he hadn't figured out he wanted to be with the mom.
