Okay, first of all I'm a guy-are there any others writing here?  Yes, I am of course in love with Jenna Fischer and with the fictional character she has created.  And I would totally have a beer and watch some hoops with Jim Halpert.

I've never written romantic stuff in my life; this show just brings it out of me.  My stories here are sort of little daydreams that seem somehow therapeutic to me.  You can usually count on happy endings from my stuff; plenty of heartache on the actual show.

Other stuff:  37, divorced, two kids, I live in Northern Virginia

Member's Choice - “My father died, so I’ll need a few days.” She explained in an unaffected sounding voice that surprised even herself. The three other parties in the room were stunned into silence. Jim spoke first. “Jesus, Pam…” She stood with her back to him and addressed Michael as if Jim had not made a sound…as if Jim did not exist. It was the only way.

I love so much about the way you choose to write.  This story...I think each chapter can't possibly be better than the last, and yet it is.  You have such a sure hand and go so deep into these characters.  Wonderful, wonderful storytelling.

Author's Response: thank you so much.  I'm so enjoying this exploration of them and how they can heal.  Glad you are too ;-)

I love this story.  Always will.  But since you asked, yeah I would have wanted this part to go a little differently.  Pam regressing to behavior that would embarrass a 15 year old?  I'm trying and I just can't see it.  It's a measure of how invested I am in this story that it's truly bothered me that it's taken a turn that doesn't sit well with me.  Of course you're absolutely entitled to your own vision, and others may not feel the same way.  I will still be looking forward to the next chapter and hoping for Pam to redeem herself.

Author's Response: Clearly Pam will redeem herself.  But I'm definitely taking your review into consideration.  This chapter is still in the works so I'm definitely up to editing some of it out.  Making it shorter.  idk.  I'll figure it out.  Anyway thank you for the honesty!! Stay with me and keep your eyes peeled for this chapter to change.  ;-)

Okay, that's more like it.  I could have lived with an angsty step backwards that was more understated and in character, but I think it's more organic to have Pam continue to grow and move forward.  Your characterization here returns to being perfect and as always the writing itself is simply incredible.  You are an amazing talent.

Truly a masterpiece.  I add my voice to those who are hoping you write more here, although in all honesty people should have to pay to read your writing.  The scale and complexity of this and the quality of your writing are truly impressive.  And where can we order the painting?

Author's Response:

lol uh guess you'll have to paint it yourself.  it only exists in my imagination ;-)

And thanks for everything! Great compliments from a great beta.

Really great idea, and very interesting.  I was intrigued by your take because I actually would have imagined almost the opposite...I think Pam would tend to be fine with arguing and see it as normal whereas Jim would be bothered by it.  Of course I'm probably projecting from my own experiences.

Author's Response:

I can totally see your perspective, I don't think Pam would enjoy arguing and I think Jim would. Jim would kind of fight for what he wants I think where as Pam wouldn't because she's afraid she would lose Jim if she said the wrong thing. I do remember she stood up to Roy a few times (in the parking lot at Chili's and in season 3) but most of the time when Roy did something she didn't like, she didn't have much to say.  But I'm going to try to bring the argumentative side of Pam out a bit, I think she can be a fighter sometimes too. =-) Thanks for your imput!

Love this fic...great idea and each one is fascinating to read.  I hope you won't mind if I quibble with your characterization though.  Most of us guys, if we take a beating on the football field, we don't want to talk about it.  We're certainly not going to whine on and on to our wives and therapists about it.  I really think Jim is too proud, too stoic, too much of a guy to say stuff like "He tried to amputate me!"

Very well done.  It's interesting, they could finally coneect after some epic struggle, or it could be something as matter-of-fact as this.  I found their exchange very realistic and thought you did a particularly good job in writing Jim's voice.  One thing...the genre is misleading, I think, I would add "romance" as well as "angst".  I almost passed on it because I assumed it would be nothing but angst.

Author's Response:

I always though that it would be a little thing that would finally tip the glass over, and make them be finally honest with each other but I'm glad it works for others as well.  I'm glad it felt realistic because that is totally what I was aiming for. :)  Thank you!

Oh, thanks for pointing out the genre stuff!  I was a little distracted and missed adding the romance label.  Bad admin me.

So sharp and insightful as usual.  I feel like I've come to know these characters, really, really well, but you never fail to bring something to the table that I just didn't think of.  Of course he would be proud of her.  And how you managed to whip this out, like, four minutes after the episode ended is beyond me.  Whatever it is you take, I want a prescription.

Author's Response:

Wow - that's really a compliment; thank you very much.  It's what I hope to do, anyway (i.e. provide some insight/bring something new to the table).  Because it's such a subtle, understated show wherein so much goes unsaid (well, it didn't in this episode, thank god), I'm just fascinated by exploring what the characters might've been thinking, feeling, their motivations....

Still planning on checking out your stories - haven't forgotten, just haven't had time yet.  I'll leave feedback when I do, though.

Well, more of the same from you...the same flawless writing that crackles with intensity,  the same deep insight into the characters and their motivations.  You write an especially great Jim...you write him as an actual man rather than an idealized projection.  Same old same old, I'll be hungrily waiting for updates.

Author's Response:

Okay, so coming from a guy, it's really flattering to hear that I write a realistic Jim.  (It's very odd, because I find him easier in a lot of ways to write than Pam, which confounds me given the gender difference.)  Thanks for yet another thoughtful review - and thanks even more for the gem that is your Newlywed Game fic.  I read it today (and reviewed), and while we're all fond of saying we laughed out loud, I literally did; I even clapped at one point (I believe it was Daryl's "Way to go, Mike!").  Just terrific stuff. My husband doesn't read fanfic and hasn't read any Office fanfic at all, but I found myself thinking I have GOT to show him your story.

Thanks again!

Wow...that was pretty much perfect.  A faint pink tinge climbed her cheek, but she looked him in the eye. She was doing that more lately, he thought.  One thing I noticed in my many rewatchings of the beach flashback is how squarely she looks him in the eye when she says "I wish you would." ...The way you infuse this with weight and drama even as you simply tell the story of them being seated in a restaurant is really remarkable, and on top of that you do it with such graceful, poetic language.  Splendid.

Author's Response: Gee, BL, you are very generous! Thank you! I think most of the poetic language belongs to John Donne, though. :D

Author's Response: I meant to add to your remarks that I think the beach conversation between Jim and Pam is the first real, honest conversation they've ever had. No agendas, no lies, no holding back, no denials. Both of them finally speaking the truth to one another. Fantastic scene. We need more fanfic about it!

When you dabble in angst you do it brilliantly.  (And it's nice to have the comfort that this is you writing and things will be okay in the end).  It's so interesting to think about them confronting and processing the past and it's very realistic to depict it not being easy.  I really think it will be hard for Jim to ever truly understand where Pam was on casino night; he just has no template to comprehend what it would have been like for her.
